If you do not live under a rock, then I am pretty sure you have heard about Pokemon Go. The mobile app turns gamers into geocatchers for Pokemon creatures. The game has been EVERYWHERE since it came out about 3 days ago. In fact, it is so popular that their servers crashing, delaying launches in other countries. It even made the news due to a robbery and people being targeted for robbing. You can say for sure it has been a bumpy ride, but it also looks like Nintendo may have found it’s groove again with Pokemon Go.
I of course won’t explain how the game works nor have I actually played it, but I will say that Nintendo must be proud. After all, their E3 was lackluster with no NX in sight and a hurting Wii U console. Pair that along with the old 3DS, some were becoming worried about their future while Nintendo stayed quite. Not it looks like they are having the last laugh, as their value grew bigger and bigger in 3 days.
Now people are jumping on and saying that Nintendo must move forward with this move, as some think mobile gaming will surpass console based games. For myself, I disagree with that, but I do think this is proof that Nintendo is seriously rethinking their plan on how they can stay current. The Wii model has died down and it may be too late to compete with Sony and Microsoft with 3d gaming. But I do believe that if Nintendo can find their path with traditional gamers again, I think they may have a fighting chance. After all, Pokemon Go is proving that the 20 year franchise hasn’t faded nor does it look like it will for another good 5 years. The fans has stood by it through the test of time, much like other core gamers have stood by Microsoft and Sony.
Basically, if Nintendo can drop the gimmick, they may be prove to be different from Sega.
How do you feel about Nintendo now with Pokemon Go’s success and how should they move forward?
