If you grew up in the 80s/90s, then you know Barbie has had all kinds of careers. Everything from high end to low end and everything in-between. However, until recently was a game developer.
Yes, Barbie is not shy from going high tech and this time they want to make STEM more appealing to girls. Especially as more and more mom’s are worried that she becomes a bad influence on younger girls. Not really my train of thought, but I also do not see having a Barbie doing anything wrong either with this concept. In fact, I can only see Mattel benefiting from this.
Barbie will come with her usual stylish look, a graphic t-shirt, blue jeans, gold glasses, a laptop, a tablet and a headset. Not exactly what I would envision a game developer to all have, but hey, Barbie can dream!
This is also not the first time Barbie has gone into IT, back in 2010 we have seen a computer engineer version. As usual, it was met with both praise and hate. We can likely expect the same for this one, but nobody can say Mattel isn’t trying here.
It sells for around $13.00 and as of now, it is sold out. Mattel has created a email notification you can sign up for in order to be notified when it is back in stock.
How do you feel about Barbie going into IT? Is it too late, too soon or just pointless? I say it is on the late side, but in my opinion it is better late than never.
