Gamers better be prepared for a busy 2017. It looks like all 3 manufactures are planning on a new console for next year.
Sony has confirmed that a new version of the PlayStation 4 will happen, but it won’t be coming out this year. Instead, it looks like they are hoping for a 2017 release while giving 2016 to their PSVR side of it. PlayStation 4 NEO is what it will be called and while it isn’t a new console exactly, they are aiming for a higher end one with more power (shades of Tim Taylor on that one).
Same goes for Microsoft’s Scorpio (their current code name for it). It is expected to be their take on the PlayStation 4 NEO, which means both will be faster and upgraded hardware. That also pretty much a promise for a higher priced version, while they plan on to design a new console for later on.
Not a bad thing, but also leaves behind one of the original 3, Nintendo.
We already know that they have been hurting for a good while. Thus Nintendo’s goal of launching the NX has taken center of their plans, even though they keep seeming to push back the launch. It is possible that they are trying to fine tune it to make it 10x times better than the Wii U. We already know their future as a gaming company is depending on a success of the NX. Thus, we can see why they are taking their time with it. It looks like 2017 is another year they are targeting now for NX’s release
However, with the NX coming so early, it makes Sony and Microsoft look odd for not aiming to compete with Nintendo. Especially if Nintendo finds a way to surpass the other two and set a record before their next gen consoles come out.
Either way, it looks like we all need to start saving up. I know that most of us will all want to try out the newer consoles and see if video games are really hitting a wall or if they survive another generation when kids go for mobile games over traditional consoles.
