Normally when I think of the designer Michael Kors (who I adore in terms of fashion and bags), I think of high-end designer. But he is now doing the more common trend in fashion and it isn’t something that is just a fad. It is going into technology.
The brand who has been a popular watch maker is now going high-tech with it. They are working reportedly with Android developers to launch their own Android Wear brand. The collection will start off with a model called Access. It will sport wrist bands that can be swapped, exclusive watch faces and do everything a regular Android based watch would do. That means apps, music and notifications will be a feature of the more traditional styled watch. The two launch looks will be in gold (for women) or a black sporty one (for men). It will also cost a pretty penny coming in at $394.00. Launch in expected in September at his stores and select department stores.
I gotta say, I am excited for this. I already loved his watches and I love that they are not taking chances. Clearly with Samsung and Apple being top smartwatch manufactures, it is about time a fashion brand joins in. I also love how they are going about this on their own. Hopefully the OS will also be unique to their brand, especially if they want to compete equally with Apple or Samsung. It will be a tough market to break into, but I have faith that Michael Kors can do this.
Do you think this is a wise choice? I don’t, as I think this is a smart business decision for Mr. Kors. Go with where the market is and succeed at it. Do you feel that Android Wear is growing more in popularity than it should be compared to Apple? No, because they did beat Apple at their own game by launching first.
