After years of Apple taking the number 1 spot in terms of mobile sales, it appears that Google has taken top spot in the 2012 fiscal year. Apple’s iOS takes the back seat to Google’s Android, which sold 107.8 units in the 2Q of 2012. Apple only sold a meek 26 million units, which compares badly to the Android sales (which rose 100% from 2011’s second half of their fiscal year). While some can point out that thanks to the many types of Android OSs out there, while Apple releases only standard versions of the iOS.
This news comes at the heels of the lower Apple sales as a whole. Since Apple has slowed down on releasing new iPhones, their sales have suffered. Much like how Nintendo has suffered from the lack of sales once more than half of the US households had the Wii. Apple does appear to be gearing up for the release of the iPhone 5, but as usual they have not directly confirmed or deny the rumor.
As far as we know, Apple has yet to address the issue or has no plans that are known outside of their offices on what we can expect from them. However, they be working on a plan since Microsoft’s Windows Mobile OS is slowly climbing the sale charts, becoming a surprising competitor in the market now.
Now tell us which you prefer, iOS, Windows Mobile, Android or another mobile OS? I am curious since it seems like those 3 are the top ones and I honestly cannot think of which one is better. Granted, I only have used iOS and Android I cannot fairly judge the Windows Mobile platform. But I do hope for that to change soon enough, though.
