Remember back in the day when Apple users said that Apple was safer than Windows? If you do, then you most likely rolled your eyes knowing that it was only a matter of time. Now that Apple’s popularity has grown, hackers are seeking ways to hack into the machines. Now they have found a way via Skype. Find out more and how to fix it after the jump.
How it works is that a hacker can send a simple IM message via Skype, which then in turn the hacker can gain control of the machine. However, no reports thus far have been reported of hackers taking advantage of the bug. Skype has already released one update, but will release a new patch that they will encourage users to download. It should also be noted that Linux and Microsoft based machines have not experienced the bug.
You can download the latest fix for Mac here.
I have to say that I wonder how Apple users will feel about this? It seems like Apple is on their way to becoming a popular target like Windows is. I know that the members of the Apple cult have stated that it is due to Microsoft’s bad programming that makes Windows a prime target. However, I think it has more to do with the sheer amount of users.
