Earlier this year, AMD stated that no smartphone processor was going to be put out by AMD. However, it now appears that AMD is watching the tablet market closely. I have no idea on what they are looking for at the moment, but it seems like AMD might be considering more than just making processors.
AMD shared that the main focus is going to the Google Android system at this moment. MeeGo will be also be watched, with the usual Windows being also in place. AMD says that it is logical to look into the tablet market at this point. As of current, no rumors about AMD building tablets anytime soon. But since Intel is joining the market share, AMD appears to be considering it.
Currently, AMD has plans to release a chip under the code-name Wichita in 2012. No official word on exactly when the chip will be released next year as of yet.
