Back in 2009, I wrote an article on what to expect for technology for that year. So I figured this year would be a good one to write up about what we should expect for this year in technology. So let us begin.
I think it is safe to assume that we will be hearing and seeing more tablet computers. I also think we will be seeing more Terabyte HD and RAM being used. But besides that, I think computers will follow the typical path that they have been for the past couple of years, like netbooks hanging on tight and Windows 7 gaining more ground.
Last year many people were bragging about dropping cable for services like Hulu, but this year I suspect cable will make a comeback. Online services will still be used and we may even get a few new ones, but cable will win. I think LCD and Plasma TVs will also still gain more consumers this year. I doubt we will be seeing any newer TV models or technology coming out this year.
With both Sony and Nintendo making waves with newer systems this year, I think it is safe to say that this year will be a pretty big deal for gamers. Much like last year when Kinect and Playstation Move came out, you will be hearing a lot about gaming this year.
Blu-Ray players will become cheaper and I still don’t think that they will be as popular as regular DVDs are at the moment. However, I do predict that this year they will gain more ground.
Last year we saw smartphones entering prepaid contracts and legal jail breaking. But this year we already know that iPhone will be joining Verizon and maybe T-Mobile next, so it is safe to safe that most smartphones will likely keep moving forward.
Kindle has been winning this thus far, but I think the Nook is coming in close. I am sure we will see a few new ones popping up and maybe even see one that can beat the Kindle.
Things like MP3 players and Sony Dash are likely to thrive, but not as much as tablets will. Also, keep a look out for generic brands that we can expect to come out soon.
As for all technology products and gadgets, I think we can expect prices going lower. This is good news and will allow everybody a chance to experience this current generation of amazing electronics that we have. I personally hope that Apple will allow Verizon or some other pre-paid phone option come out for the iPhone. I think it is Apple’s best choice in the fight against Android phones.
What do you hope will happen this year in technology?
