I may be a little late on this topic, but this is a huge topic that has been much debated topic for close to 2 years now. The iPhone has been rumored, denied and rumored some more about being built for the Verizon network. It sounds like this time Apple has let the customers win this time. I think the demand and rumors allowed this to happen, but it does leave a few questions to be answered.
Is it too late now? Late last year, the Feds allowed people to jail break their phones and while this does not allow iPhone users to switch to Verizon they should could legally sign up with another service provider. Now with this edition of the iPhone coming out, you can unlock that one and use it with a similar service provider of you choice. So again, it makes a Verizon iPhone pointless.
Will a lot of users switch? They could, but most will likely have to wait or buy a jailbreak edition and sign up with that one. They will likely get a lot of new users and this could boost the iPhone’s sales up a little-but I doubt much.
One thing I doubt Apple will ever do, but they should consider is allowing pre-paid editions to come out. That would give them a good start against Android and thus allow them to make gains.
What do you think about the iPhone coming on to Verizon? Should they release a pre-paid edition? I want your thoughts on this, so please comment and tell us what you think.
